Embrace Natural Imperfection With The Slub Stretch Selvedge
Over the years, our passion for crafting unique, high-quality denim has given birth to several standout fabric lines that have each transcended into their own unique series. These include the Elephant Denim, Okayama Spirit, Japan Heritage, and now, we turn our focus back to a true classic - the Slub Stretch Selvedge. This iconic fabric has inspired an incredibly popular series, with standout variants such as the Sakura Slub Stretch Selvedge, the Golden Hour Slub Stretch Selvedge, and the unforgettable Ryu and Ken denim from the Street Fighter collaboration, along with the Goku and Cell Denim from the Dragon Ball Z collaboration. This fabric base has repeatedly proven itself as a fan favorite, and we're thrilled to re-launch the original version that started it all – the classic white backed indigo denim edition of the Slub Stretch Selvedge.
The Slub Stretch Selvedge is a 12.5oz Japanese denim known for its distinctive uneven texture. This unique quality is achieved by weaving irregular sized slub yarns on antique shuttle looms, which results in an organic grain reminiscent of traditional hand-woven fabric. This deliberate design choice infuses each piece with a distinctive, natural character, separating it from the uniformity of mainstream denim productions.
A defining characteristic of this denim is its dynamic fading properties. The uneven slub texture, with thicker parts of the yarns raised, subjects these areas to more abrasion and thus, they fade at different rates compared to the smoother areas of the fabric. Coupled with the rope-dyeing process of these yarns, this creates an uneven indigo absorption due to the variance in yarn size. As such, the denim contains a rich palette of indigo tones that become more pronounced as the denim fades. Notably, the end result is a denim that emphasizes vertical fading patterns.
The Slub Stretch Selvedge isn't just about unique aesthetics; it’s also about comfort. While the denim make look rough and rigid, reminiscent of classic denim, it also incorporates a 2% stretch for added comfort and a faster break-in period.
Each pair is meticulously cut, sewn, and assembled in our factory—the last standing jeans factory in Canada—owned and operated by us at Naked & Famous Denim. Our involvement in every step of the process allows us to maintain strict quality control, ensuring that every pair of jeans that leaves our factory meets our high standards. The jeans feature contrast stitching, a light brown leather patch, and silver metallic buttons and rivets, adding both strength and visual appeal.
In the grand history of Naked & Famous Denim, the Slub Stretch Selvedge stands as a testament to continuous innovation. With its re-launch, we're not just reviving a classic; we're bringing back a fabric that has played a monumental role in shaping our history, redefining collaborations, and winning the hearts of raw denim lovers worldwide.
