How to wear this season's most wanted shirt, The Aloha Shirt.

Naked & Famous Denim released a Camp Collar Shirt they named the “Aloha Shirt” this Spring Summer 2018. Available in a variety of eye catching colors and prints, our customers are drawn to the laid-back and playful vibe of this short sleeve shirt. Typically, you would imagine a Hawaiian shirt worn by dad’s on vacation. But, considering the Japanese influence on the Aloha Shirt and styled more retro-American than American-tourist, we think this is the coolest top to wear with your Japanese denim and chinos. Aloha Shirt CreatorThe Hawaiian Shirt, otherwise known as the “Aloha Shirt” is a short sleeve shirt in a boxy silhouette with a classic camp collar and finished with coconut buttons. Pinpointing who exactly was the original designer of this shirt is a controversial topic. Legend has it, the original creator of this shirt is Koichiro Miyamoto,  “Musa-Shiya the Shirtmaker”, a Japanese tailor living in Honolulu. Koichiro’s wife, Dolores Miyamoto, remembers receiving orders for colorful shirts made of kimono fabric from Shirley Temple and John Barrymore in the late 1920s. The Japanese and Chinese merchants of Honolulu liked to import fabrics from home like Japanese printed silk and cotton yukata, a traditional summer kimono material, to make island clothing for residents and tourists.

When it comes to styling your Aloha Shirt, go modern. The playful prints and laid-back fit will look best paired with a simple top and bottom. Questions about fit? Send me a note. cierra@tateandyoko.com
