MIJ7 – Yahan Midnight Selvedge
The Made in Japan collection celebrates and explores what only Japanese denim dyeing, weaving, and manufacturing can achieve. The MIJ7 – Yahan Midnight Selvedge looks like black denim, but it isn’t. It’s a deep, dark shade of indigo with a touch of black added to the dye. Huge potential for high-contrast fades as time and wear will chip away the blackened indigo to reveal dark navy, then a bright blue hue, then a sky blue, and finally the white core of the yarn. Slub yarns and low-tension weaving create an organic gritty texture to the fabric. At 17oz, the denim is a medium to heavyweight fabric. Then there are all the details that put the MIJ collection in another class altogether. Every detail of the Yahan Midnight Selvedge is chosen to enhance the beauty of the denim with wear. The black iron buttons will rust. The copper rivets will patina to a topaz color. The Japanese sheepskin patch with the “Flower of Carnage” logo will age darker and richer. Even the raised belt loops add another 3-dimensional element that will fade. The micro busted outseam and the selvedge button fly speak to the extra love and labor that goes into the Made in Japan collection. While the denim is unsanforized, each MIJ7 garment has been tempi treated to pre-shrink the fabric but maintain its natural hairy, gritty, loomstate properties.
